Day One...

Arrived at school early this morning so I could take care of last minute items before students arrived. I happened to log in to email at about 6:30 am and noticed that the counselor, also the schedule guru, had sent me an email @ 6:24 am. Details below:

"I really apologize for the late notice but I need you to teach one period of 6th grade social studies. I will not build it today but I need to get students scheduled ASAP due to large numbers that 6th grade teachers carry in first period. I plan to collapse your first and combine it with Ms. Perky’s."

Isn't this just a fantastic way to start the school year? Don't get the wrong idea, I always want to do what is right for the students, I don't like getting blindsided!! After that auspicious beginning the day could only go upward...

We have switched to a seven period day rather than six and all of us were dragging our collective butts by 3:25. Of course we couldn't go home ~ FL had to have a 'quick meeting" after school. Thirty minutes later we could head for home, the local watering hole, etc.

I'll try to keep you current as the days go by!!

We just changed from 7 to 6 periods, and while it took me some time to get used to the extra time in each class, I'm really loving it now. I hope I never have to go back to 7 periods, but I feel for you. Here's hoping the year gets better from this point forward.
