The first week couldn’t end fast enough! NO, students were not the problem.
Separately the issues are manageable but together they can be quite the headache.
*New Content ~ 8th grade
*New Teacher/partner that I am mentoring
*Additional Prep ~ 6th grade (see post below)
Working with Ms. Perky is a blessing for me but I don’t want her to get burned out or discouraged. She told me that she was going home with headaches everyday. Ms. P. is trying to find her style of teaching and classroom management. I only have to worry about content as I have mastered “The Look”! Ha-ha! We have been monitoring our lessons daily and will have help from downtown. Our middle school specialist is going to sit down with us tomorrow to help us out. Another plus in our favor! He has a plethora of ideas up his sleeve and will also help me with the 6th grade content. I need more activities as the textbook stinks and I am not sure where to focus my attention.
FL was almost fawning over me on Tuesday ~ “Ms. BA, thanks for being such a trooper, blah, blah, blah. I promise this is not a permanent assignment.” Personally, I ain’t holding my breath. A colleague heard me in the hallway yapping about ‘flying by the seat of my pants’ and she said that if anyone could do it: “You are the one that is known to fly and do a great job!” After bending my mentor’s ear this weekend she, too, said that I should take it as a compliment from FL that he thinks enough of my teaching to go in and take over that 6th grade class. Thanks for all the pats on the back.
The fly in the ointment is the fact that I have to maintain TWO classrooms since FL doesn’t want the little ones mingling with the big ones. I haven’t the time to set up a new room ~ I did all of that in the summer. If indeed there will be a new teacher in a few weeks, then he/she will want to fix the room their way. The up side is that I am getting a lot more exercise as the classrooms are at opposite ends of the campus.
Well it’s Labor Day and I need to get ready for the week at hand. Y’all have a great week!

Wow!
That's quite a dual handful of full plates, BA. Sounds like you're managing alright, which is good to read. :)
Great job so far and good luck this year. I hope that you have a good time with your new passengers and keep us updated (when you have time, that is!)
Don't you just LOVE running from one end of the campus to the other?
