Stress ~ part deux

The TAKS countdown is just about finished. I am having tutoring tomorrow with help from my ELL colleague. Unfortunately there is a track meet Saturday morning which will prevent some very interested students from attending. The “Jeopardy” competition between the two eighth grade classes is slated for Monday! I had not planned on being a part of the contest; after all, I was just there for the review. Many students said that I should be there and that maybe I should talk to the principal. Still I wasn’t convinced that I would be successful in obtaining my request. A young man in the last class of the day uttered the following:

“Ms. BA, you have to come. If you don’t, it’s like a coach not showing up for a game.”

What a profound statement that helped to clinch the deal!

Before I left campus today, I made my room ship shape for inspection by the ‘testing police’ next week. Alas I won’t be testing my seventh grade passengers, Teacher X is! He will be with them for four days: two for testing and two for regular instruction. What have my travelers done to deserve this? I specifically asked to proctor the Social Studies test in his room next Friday. Why? I’ll cut right to the chase: they will give it their best shot if I am in the room. If Teacher X is present, they will shut down. As a result of this request I will supervise all four days of testing.

What about my regular travelers? They are quite resilient and after spending time with Teacher X they might appreciate me a just tiny bit. Hopefully they won’t have the misfortune of being assigned to him next year.

BA,

Who said this was a thankless job? On behalf of your students, parents, and teachers, I thank you for your exemplary dedication and fortitude. Good luck to you all next week. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and yours.
