“If a doctor, lawyer, or dentist had forty people in his office at one time, all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn’t want to be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer, or dentist, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional excellence for nine months, then he might have some conception of the classroom teacher’s job.”

There are those who have the talent to carve through the human anatomy to save lives. There are those skilled enough in words to protect the innocent. And there are the occasional few who have the agaility to work within the confines of the human mouth.
The rarest talent of all are those who can reach the youthful mind.
We do not do it for accolades, Nobels, or Oscars. We do not do it for the Mansions, Mercedes, or Season Tickets. I know just by sitting in the teacher's lounge that the day is filled with nothing but dislike for their kids.
Sure, I have the occasional bonehead that I would like to take to the toolshed. However, I do not allow a negative situation to sit there and fester.
The public's perception brought on by Hollywood and television is mostly that we do not matter in society. We are on the evening news all of the time when something goes wrong. But when kids graduate from school, nothing is said. When kids get scholarships, national awards, recognized by national organizations, nada.
We need hold our chins up and remember why we do what we do. When what I do turns into a job, I quit...
