Race Day!

Can you believe it? It is hard to believe that another year has gone by ~ time to lace up the walking shoes and complete the 5K! I was entrant #00004 in the “survivor’s” category and managed to conclude the race in under an hour. Just like last year, I had my reliable companion along for the trek ~ my youngest daughter! Maybe I haven’t mentioned it before but she has three semesters to complete @ the University of Texas Health Science Center whereupon she will be an RN. Watch this blog around May of 2009 for the graduation announcement, and other news. I can totally rely on her to take charge in a crisis or throw a party!

Our school district sponsored a team this year as the ‘big kahuna’ wants us to have more community involvement. Turns out that we had over 450 team members (largest team ever at the race) and his goal is for us to have 1,000+ next year. Even though I wasn’t part of the school team, (I signed up WAY before the district decided to join in) I still managed to see lots of people I know, including the superintendent. Yup, the same dude that said I was an incredible teacher back on Halloween!

Since I had completed the race last year, I felt that there would be nothing new to experience on race day so I considered not attending today’s soiree. Once again it was a very touching day ~ it is really hard to express my emotions on paper but I am thankful that I went.

I reflect on the question: why am I a survivor ~ what is the purpose of my life??

ttfn,

Hi! I'm glad you went. Things like that are still hard for me, so when they pass around the volunteer list I tend to go to the restroom. :) I'm there in spirit though.

I read about your group's test results. Great job!
