Special Request

If you have been wondering why I have been a bit silent lately, here is why.

A very special friend will be going through a life-altering experience tomorrow. L. is undergoing a radical mastectomy for Stage III breast cancer. She followed all the 'rules' and even consulted with my surgeon for a second opinion. Unfortunately, he confirmed what her own surgeon diagnosed.

She is extremely nervous as one would be under such circumstances. I have been her sounding board to the best of my ability but I wonder how much help I have been. This whole thing weighs heavily on my mind since it has only been 18 months since my own surgery. There is that pesky, nagging voice in the back of my mind that I try my damnedest to ignore: "What if it comes back?"
