PSA

Don’t forget to set your clocks BACK one hour this evening (2AM) unless you reside in Hawaii, Arizona or parts of Indiana.

I understand the rationale for daylight savings time but hasn’t it worn out its welcome? Next year DST begins the second Sunday in March and extends to the first Sunday in November. Now it gets darker earlier and it is no fun driving into the sun at 5:30 pm. Not to mention I am ready for bed way earlier than usual!

Went shopping at a mega warehouse that carries imported stuff (read: cheap, mass produced items!) with the youngest offspring. She got a promotion and wanted to decorate her office. We drove up, noticed the huge inflated Santa with his reindeer on the roof. Upon entering the store, our eyes were assaulted with the barrage of Christmas merchandise on display. Annoyance factor starts to rise. Know what makes it increase?? Christmas music over the public address system! It’s freaking October; Halloween hasn’t arrived and our eardrums have to endure this appalling racket. Maybe I am just old but back in the day, Christmas music/advertising didn’t begin until the day AFTER Thanksgiving. There is a local “soft rock” radio station that plays CONTINUOUS holiday music starting before December 1st. People actually enjoy it but that would drive me over the proverbial wall. Thank goodness for alternative stations, CD’s, and the like.

What *holiday* stuff bugs you??

What holiday stuff bugs me the most-- the STUFF! Why is it that we celebrate this season with ever increasingly bad stuff? Does the "Baby Jesus" require a falling down laughing Elmo? Does the solstice require tawdry decorations to arrive? What about Hanukka; does it need a festive laurel to be blessed? etc etc etc
I don't really mind a little commercialization (a little), but does it have to involve such crap.

Using an X as an abbreviation for Christmas bugs me.

Calling it Winter Holiday instead of Christmas break bugs me.

As the Mom getting caught up in all the stuff that we think "makes" Christmas yet it doesn't really have anything to do with it bugs me most of all.

and yes, come to think of it, I don't like seeing Christmas decorations before trick or treat time either.

Bah! Humbug! :)
