Even though school is out, learning still continues. I always feel that I can improve professionally so I try to seek out classes that might help me hone my skills.
Last week I spent five days with fellow colleagues in the district at a "History Alive!" training session. Now this is the type of class that I enjoy attending. We were engaged in learning and once again the days flew by! The best part was the opportunity to collaborate with others; wish we could do that more frequently. I was able to 'pick the brains' of teachers who had 100% passing rates for TAKS in their classes. Yup, I already secured phone #'s and email addresses for those days when I need help. On the flip side, I was able to mentor a teacher who is teaching Texas history for the first time. It was great to be able to help someone else out just as others are willing to help me. Oh, btw, I got paid for my attendance, earned 30 hours of c.e. credit and G/T renewal credit.
I attended a S.I.O.P. team meeting and will be taking a 3-day class to learn the strategies. SIOP means Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocols and they target the ELL population but all students will benefit.
The last week of this month I will be in Dallas for the AVID conference ~ no more workshops are on the agenda at this time.
This is the time of year that I have the chance to de-clutter my living environment. Who knew that my kids would be pack rats??? Trying to convince them to get rid of stuff is nearly impossible. Personally I have been able to clean out files and throw away needless junk. I got my front brakes done and the radiator flushed on the car. Hard to believe that I have had it a year already.
Must sign off as it is thundering, etc. and I don't want to fry my computer.
