Only in Texas.....

My regular readers know I reside in the Alamo City ~ a beautiful city, rich in history and culture. I teach Texas History to 7th grade adolescents except that isn’t happening today!

Mother Nature has given us a ‘snow day’ which has a different connotation for our neighbors to the north and east of us. Ice is covering our major thoroughfares, not to mention that 99% of us haven’t a clue as to how to drive on it safely. The odds of ice and or snow occurring here are about as slim as me growing a third limb. I normally don’t watch television but it has been on in the background with local news pre-empting soaps (which is really irking the fanatics!). Want to hear irony? There is a meteorology convention being held here at the convention center.

So what is yours truly doing??? I am trapped in my house since the deck and the stairs that leads to the car has a very treacherous layer of ice on it. The newspaper is still resting in the driveway; don’t think my principal would appreciate me calling in with broken limbs. Watching a movie or two might be on the agenda!

Will there be school tomorrow?? That decision won’t be made until later this evening or early tomorrow morning. The roadways that I use to commute to school are shut down; TX DOT and local police are asking us to not leave unless it is a dire emergency.

The downside??? We WILL have to make these missed days up either at Easter or the end of the year. When the temperature gets to Hades rating, I might want to remember this gift from Mother Nature.

The motto of Texas: “If you don’t like the weather, wait fifteen minutes. It might just change.”

Well, we have been given another day to enjoy this wintery wonderland of ice, sledge and chattering temperatures.

The cat has been rompong around the house like a maniac so he seems to be enjoying this stuff as well...

Oh, no kidding.

Austin's been pretty much shut down today. Tomorrow isn't looking a whole heck of a lot better, but we shall see.

Oh yes, we shall see...

Sounds like paradise to me, so long as you don't lose power.

Enjoy your movies!
