It’s hard to believe but week six of our journey is finished. Overall the passengers have adjusted well. We are studying Spanish exploration in the Americas. The lesson on Cortes and the Aztecs was awesome. Instead of the usual assessment, they had to either create a ‘wanted poster’ or a ‘certificate of merit’ for Cortes. Ninety-nine percent did the wanted poster! I am impressed with their sense of justice. Next week we will be studying the mission system in Texas. Students will have the opportunity to role play.
Our campus has been ‘selected’ to participate in the Texas Educator Excellence Grant. These past few weeks have been extremely tiring ~ never realized the amount of work that is required to implement a grant. No rest for the weary. Tomorrow, all (a lot) of the Social Studies teachers in our district will be in a workshop. Our new superintendent will be the keynote speaker. Only one glitch: traffic. Interstate 10 will closed both directions within a three miles of the exit for the workshop.
That’s all for now; will post again soon.
